We're a small team making apps and trying out new ideas with technology. Nothing too fancy - just working on stuff we think might be useful or interesting.
We started PHANES in 2025 because we wanted to build the kind of apps we'd actually want to use. We're based in Sydney and mostly just enjoy making things work better than they currently do.
We try to keep things simple and focus on solving actual problems rather than creating impressive-sounding features that nobody really needs.
The name PHANES comes from a Greek word meaning "bringing to light" - we liked the idea of making things clearer or easier to understand.
We try to make apps that just work without needing a manual. If we use AI or any fancy tech, it should be invisible - you shouldn't have to think about it.
Build software that makes everyday tasks a bit easier or more enjoyable. We're not trying to revolutionize everything - just make things work a little better.
We'd like to have a collection of apps that people genuinely find useful. If some of them happen to use AI in helpful ways, great. If not, that's fine too.
We like experimenting with new technologies to see if they can actually make our apps better. Sometimes they do, sometimes they don't.
Build quick prototypes, see if they work, and don't be afraid to scrap them if they don't. It's better to figure out what doesn't work early.
We try not to collect data we don't need and keep what we do collect secure. Seems like basic decency but apparently worth mentioning these days.
Actually talk to potential users before building stuff. It's amazing how often this simple step gets skipped in software development.
Test thoroughly and fix bugs before shipping. Nobody likes apps that crash or do weird things when you're just trying to get something done.
Build things that solve real problems people have. If our apps don't make someone's day a little bit better, we're probably doing something wrong.
